Christopher Edgar-Smith

Founder of Liberating Wellness

Christopher Edgar-Smith LMSW is a Black, Queer, Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Metro Detroit. Christopher’s clinical work centers serious persistent mental illness and trauma centered treatment for LGBTQIA2+ folx of color. Christopher’s therapeutic foundations support the wellness of adolescent and adult gender expansive folx as well.


Christopher is a member of  WPATH (and), as well as a Kink/Poly aware and affirming practitioner.  Christopher completed an undergraduate  degree at the University of Michigan-Flint, and attended the University of Minnesota, and Madonna University for his  Master of Social Work with a concentration in Clinical Mental Health.


Christopher utilizes Psychodynamic, Brainspotting, Narrative Therapy, CBT, and EMDR interventions treating trauma and oppression fatigue with communities navigating life in the margins

I work with adults experiencing emotional pain, confusion and/or denial. This may be manifested in a myriad of issues that I can assist with, including depression and other mood disorders, anxiety, substance dependency, interpersonal issues, and past trauma. I have experience working with many different cultural backgrounds and sexual orientations/identities.

I believe that all people can benefit from empathy, honesty and genuineness from a therapist. During the process of psychotherapy, I aim to foster self-awareness, hope, healing and growth. I mainly use CBT, DBT and Person-Centered approaches. These modalities allow for self-exploration, learning new coping skills for emotions and situations.

Individual therapy is an opportunity to speak with an objective professional who cares about your concerns and is focused on how you want to make change.


Above all, I offer compassion and honesty without judgement. It is my hope for my office to be a place of healing, learning and growth. It is my goal to help people reach their goals of positive change.
